Communication for Social Change

Good communication motivates an individual and by following a good  instruction he will surely have a good output. Since communication is the basic fundamental instrument for a good relationship, this will help in binding a good relationship between two or more individuals. Even simple relationships relies through good communications. Communication depends also on the way we deliver the message. Different individual of different educational background have a different way of giving instructions. and also the educational background of an individual have different interpretation on things and issues. Take into consideration the example in our textbook: talking to a stranger and later on you have something in common like opinions on issues.  It is also a great foundation for families. Open communication between children and parents creates a friendly atmosphere in the family circle. In this way children will not be ashamed to open or to confide  their problems to their parents, this will avoid them from rather  seeking advices to their friends that sometimes lead them to a dare among their peers. Families composes the community and good communication will create a peaceful and a progressive community .

Communication for social change can be achieved by conducting trainings and seminars to enhance the practice for development and social change with an emphasis on participatory approaches. Such as dialogue between private and public organizations will lead to a community- based decision making and collective action.This action will lead to a long term social change. Communication is really influential to attain social change. And through proper designation of information among the participants in the community will surely promotes unity that leads to good and sustainable social change.

Nowadays where modern technology is of great help in designating information. In the barangay for example, ordinances will be designated easily to the people.Technology involves the use of variety of communication techniques address in efficient systems, process or modes of production within an specific location. In  the far flung areas where signals are out of reach, designating information  will be in the form of print media, sometimes radio which is the most affordable medium of getting information Also by conducting seminars using paper works and slide shows. Media is a good instrument in designating information. But influence of modern technology is the greatest factor for social change. We have what we call the social media nowadays. The misuse of modern technology for the new generation also change their points of view in life. The over information they got from the modern technology sometimes lead them to death.

Social change can happen at he level of the individual, community, an organization or a society. Communication  unites people from all walks of life regardless of culture, gender, educational attainment, civil status and ethnic group. Such diverse phenomena as sex, roles, gestures and values may differ widely from one culture to another. Since the effects of culture are persuasive and extend to an almost infinite number of behavioral characteristics, it is likely that language structure is also affected. If culture is considered maybe as a global concept, it would appear that language,  in interpersonal behavior in only one aspect, a very important dimension of culture. All forms of of social interaction the language people speak is the most compelling and enduring source of cultural identity. Major differences in costumes, values, attitudes and rituals tend to be accompanied by differences in language, and similarities in language lend to reinforce similarities in social behavior. This is so to people who shared common language. Whereas people in some other places that are divided along linguistic lines encounter problems in maintaining national unity  because linguistic differences reinforce and accented cultural differences.

I want to include religion as another factor for social change. Different interpretation of faith creates a barrier between people and nations. The number one issues among rebels in both local and international community has something to do with religion. In the southern part of the archipelago for example, religion is one among the factors of conflict.

Communication for social change is the transforming effect of human communication. In this technological revolution of information and knowledge society, communication for social change will offer a common framework to all the researchers which focus on the social impact of growing channels of human communication, professionals from Education sector, Audio visual Communications and Human-Computer interaction, Journalism, Sociology, Psychology, Social Work and Telecommunications.

Another contributor for social change is in the world of Entertainment – Education, the process of purposely designing and implementing a media message is to both entertain and educate. This is done in order to increase media knowledge about an educational issue that creates favorable attitudes and changes overt behavior of the viewers. This strategy uses the universal appeal of entertainment to show individuals how they can live safer and have a healthier lives. Strategy of combining entertainment with education is not new anyway. In music, drama and print, this have been utilized for education information and instruction.However the  use of the entertainment education strategy in mass communication especially on television, radio and films is a recent phenomenon. The entertainment formats such as soap operas, rock music, feature films, shows, cartoons, comics and theater are used in various countries to promote messages about educational issues. Social change can be achieved through entertainment- education. And under this certain conditions in combination with other influences, entertainment- education creates a climatic for  social change.

Here in our country we also have the sesame street for kids, our local version is the pong pagong. This t.v. programs helped in molding the youth. whatever format the program has will surely affects the points of view of the viewers especially the kids.

Social change also includes political issues. The political landscape of our country is a great influence to the ideas and attitudes of the people. Through social media they could share their opinions and comments right on the hook against our politicians. Through the modern way of communication, they can also organized their group easily to conduct a coup.
